Culture’s biggest night, “BET Awards” 2024, stood on culture with an unforgettable night recognizing outstanding accomplishments across the industry and the Black community globally. The 2024 “BET Awards” celebrated outstanding African talent, with artists from the continent taking home prestigious awards. South African artist Makhadzi, won the award for the “Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act”. Another South African sensation, Tyla dominated the international categories, clinching both the “Best International Act” and “Best New Artist” awards.
Nigerian global star, Tems continues to shine as she won the “Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award” for her soul-stirring track “Me & U”.
Joined by today’s biggest stars in music, television, film, and sports, “BET Awards” 2024 was an ode to Black creativity and excellence, serving as a reflection of the impact of Black culture. Victoria Monét led in “BET Awards” 2024 and won honours in Video of the Year and the BET Her Award. USHER was honoured with this year’s Lifetime Achievement BET Award with tributes from Childish Gambino, Keke Palmer, Summer Walker, Coco Jones, Marsha Ambrosius, Chlöe, Tinashe, Teyana Taylor, Victoria Monét and Latto. Will Smith performed for the first time ever on the BET Awards and unveiled his new song “You Can Make It” along with Kirk Franklin, Chandler Moore, and Sunday Service Choir.

BET celebrated Black Excellence in music, television, film, and sports across more than 20 categories.“BET Awards” 2024 aired LIVE on BET on Monday, 1 July, 2024, at 2:00 am WAT/3:00am CAT on BET Africa DStv Channel 129 and GOtv Channel 21 from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and kicked off with an explosive “Red Carpet Live Show” at 23:00 WAT/00:00 CAT hosted by Terrence J, with performances by Too $hort, Lil’ Mo, Blxst & Bino Rideaux, Connie Diiamond, 4batz, Hunxho, Kalan.Frfr, Mariah The Scientist, October London, Remy Ma, Tee Grizzley, 310babii, and the legendary DJ Quik. Pretty Vee served as a correspondent; Tank hosted the Style Stage, and Mouse Jones hosted the exclusive “BET Awards” live stream.
Rap superstar Megan Thee Stallion opened culture’s biggest night with an energetic rendition of hit songs “Boa,” “Hiss,” and “Where Them Girls At.”
Returning host Taraji P. Henson took centerstage with her opening monologue and performance of “It’s About Us,” playing off Kendrick Lamar’s popular track “They Not Like Us.”
Victoria Monét electrified the audience and received a standing ovation with a performance of her monster hit “On My Mama” and her new single “Alright” for the first time-ever on a televised award show. In her acceptance of winning the “BET HER Award” Monét thanked her mom and acknowledged her desire to collaborate with more Black women.
Rap sensation Sexyy Red hit the stage with The Stylistics to perform her hit song “U My Everything,” followed by her new single, “Get It Sexyy.”
Fashion Designers Shareef Mosby, Nia Thomas, Durrell Dupard, Larissa Huehleder, Heart Roberts were honored for their work with the Shine a Light award presented by McDonalds.
The new generation of performers, Heiress and Van Van, performed “Be You,” showcasing talent for all ages.
Will Smith performed for the first time ever on the BET Awards and unveiled his new song “You Can Make It” along with Kirk Franklin, Chandler Moore, and Sunday Service Choir.
Newly announced BET Amplified artist Tanner Adell brought country music to the BET Amplified stage presented by NISSAN with her songs “Buckle Bunny” and “Cowboy.”
GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion delivered energetic performances of “Yeah Glo!,” “TGIF,” and “Wanna Be.”
Country star Shaboozey hit the stage to perform “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” and J-Kwon surprised the audience with his song that inspired it all, “Tipsy.”
Rap Superstar Latto blazed the stage with her songs “Sunday Service” and “Big Mama.”
Songstress Tyla transported the audience to South Africa with a colourful rendition of “Jump” alongside Gunna and Skillibeng.
Bronx Rap Star Ice Spice performed “Phat Butt” and “Think U The Shit (Fart).”
USHER was honoured with this year’s Lifetime Achievement BET Award, recognizing his prolific 30-plus-year career and impact as a songwriter, performer, and record producer and a show-stopping tribute by today’s hottest artists. To honour this achievement, Walmart is granting his charity, New Look, with a $100,000 grant. With Atlanta flair and Usher-inspired choreography, the audience was electrified with tribute performances by:Childish Gambino and Keke Palmer opened the tribute with “U Don’t Have To Call” followed by Keke’s rendition of “U Make Me Wanna…”
Summer Walker performed “Come Through” and “Good Good.”
Coco Jones performed a sultry rendition of “There Goes My Baby”
Marsha Ambrosius performed “Superstar”
Chlöe performed “Good Kisser”
Tinashe performed “Nice & Slow”
Teyana Taylor and Victoria Monét, recreated USHER’s iconic performance with Beyoncé of “Bad Girl”
Latto closed out the tribute with an Atlanta-themed performance with “Yeah!”
In an emotional acceptance speech, USHER said, “This hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. I want to thank each performer and acknowledge every detail because those moments that become legacy are about having fun and creative expression.” USHER went on to thank his mother, wife, children, fans, and mentors: LA Reid, Jermaine Dupri, Babyface, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis. He went on to say, “This is the year of the father. For fathers to stand up for their sons and daughters. Success has a million fathers, and mine starts with these guys here (acknowledging his mentors).”
It was a family affair as Ms. Lauryn Hill & YG Marley performed his “Praise Jah in the Moonlight” and closed the show with a surprise reunion by Ms. Hill’s former Fugee bandmate, Wyclef Jean.
With an important election year, BET revealed its “We V.O.T.E.” campaign, underscoring the importance of civic participation at local, state, and federal levels throughout the 2024 election cycle. The campaign highlighted key issues affecting the Black community and the urgent need for high Black voter turnout.
