Johannesburg, Friday, 30 January 2026 – Trompies have been a dominant force in South African music for over three decades, with roots deep in the townships that shaped them. Their sound sparked a movement that defined an era, becoming an integral part of the country’s social fabric during a time of transition. From their 1994 debut, they’ve crafted a unique sonic identity blending African textures, deep bass lines, and percussive loops, with lyrics delivered proudly in vernacular. They’ve captured everyday stories, transforming Kwaito from a genre into a cultural statement. With over twelve albums, multiple platinum certifications, and sales exceeding a million, Trompies remain driven by the same heartbeat that birthed them.

Their lead single “Lilizela” arrived as a reminder of the group’s timeless place in South African music and the power they still hold to unite listeners across generations. Featuring powerhouses, Nokwazi, Kwesta and Stoan, the song carries the unmistakable Trompies formula that has endured through the years. Built on infectious repetition and a warm sing along hook, “Lilizela” brings together an authentic kwaito core with subtle elements of modern piano influences. It is a song designed to stir memory and movement. Its very essence is rooted in celebration and the energy of wedding season where kwaito has always reigned as a soundtrack of joy and community.

Their latest single offering “Bhemisa” featuring Amapiano giants in Toss, Scotts Maphuma, Kabza De Small, Bhudescar and uGeneral Official; Trompies have successfully blended the classic sound with new age artists & producers alike. “Bhemisa” is a song about passing on the baton which is something Trompies have felt strongly about conveying to the younger artists in the industry. The single is an invite to aspiring artists to take the Pantsula culture and make it their own. From the lyrics, to production to the dances – “Bhemisa” encompasses how a generational culture has paved the way for another.

The EP brings together an impressive roster of collaborators including Vetkuk vs Mahoota, Kwesta, Kabza De Small, TOSS, Reece Madlisa, Dr Lamandro, Nokwazi and more. It is a body of work that celebrates homegrown sound while carrying forward the legacy of a group that has shaped the identity of Kwaito for more than thirty years.

Trompies have embodied Pantsula – they have opened the doorway for Amapiano through collaboration – and they are now establishing themselves as legendary through this EP. “Pantsula 4 Life” is a declaration of their pride, purpose and passion that has always defined them.
