
Alec Rorisang Kobeng, popularly known as Tycoon, is a South African DJ and record producer born on October 18, 2003, in Diepkloof, Soweto, Gauteng.
His musical journey began in 2016 as a hip-hop producer during his high school years, transitioning to Amapiano music in 2018.
Tycoon ventured into DJing after completing his matric year, initially focusing on hip-hop before fully embracing the Amapiano genre.
Tycoon gained recognition with his production on the track “After Tears” featuring Sizwe Alakine, Dj Stokie, and Boohle. He further collaborated on Slade’s EP, contributing to tracks like “Late” with Sir Trill and “Sawubona” with Sir Trill and Raspy.
Tycoon’s involvement as an executive producer on Khanyisa’s EP and subsequent joint EP releases showcased his versatility and talent within the Amapiano scene.
In 2023, Tycoon released his solo EP titled “Art of Love,” marking a significant milestone in his career.
He collaborated with various artists such as ReaDaSoul, Nanette, Jay Sax, MaWhoo, Nkosazana Daughter, Mashudu, Zeenhle, and Man Dee, solidifying his presence in the music industry.
Tycoon’s collaborations and productions continued to garner attention, leading to notable releases like “Ngik’bone” and “Funa Ban.”
As Tycoon pivoted into 2024, he maintained his momentum by working on projects with Dj Zinhle, Basetsana, Morda, MaWhoo, and other artists.
His recent single “Hlala Nam” with Sino Msolo under his record label “Tyza Wav” showcased his musical depth and soulful sound.
Tycoon’s upcoming EP, “Art of Love II,” set for release on August 2, 2024, promises to captivate audiences with tracks like “Oko Oko,” “Imali,” and “Imiyalo Mama.”
