On Saturday, 7 March 2026, The Loft, Cape Town’s bustling underground House Music event, returns to The Hearty Collective at The Old Biscuit Mill. I have attached the press release with the full details.
What really stands out to me is how much house music and well curated events contribute to Cape Town’s broader entertainment and tourism landscape. These spaces create real energy in the city. They bring people together across communities and position Cape Town as more than just a scenic destination. The Loft is part of that movement, holding space for the deeper, soulful side of South African house while maintaining a strong production standard.
I would love to set up an interview with Lonwabo “Man of Lemon” Mgoduso, founder of The Loft, and Léa Debbah, founder of Edition Events, if you are open to covering this. They can speak to the cultural impact of house music and how intentional eventing feeds into Cape Town’s creative economy or whatever else you’d like to unpack with them in all things culture
Let me know your thoughts, and I can share any additional assets you may need! Look forward to hearing from you soon

NO GIMMICKS, JUST HOUSE: THE LOFT RETURNS TO DEFINE CAPE TOWN’S DEEP HOUSE UNDERGROUND
On 7 March 2026, Edition Events and The Loft strip back the noise to host a masterclass in South African house music, centering community and pure groove at The Hearty Collective.
Cape Town, 27 February 2026 — On Saturday, 7 March 2026, The Loft returns to The Hearty Collective to kick off its 2026 calendar with a night built strictly for the purists. Born out of a need for authentic sonic spaces, The Loft has rapidly evolved from an intimate gathering into the architectural backbone of Cape Town’s deep house community—a sanctuary where the BPM slows, the basslines deepen, and the culture is fiercely preserved.
A Lineup Built for the Groove. Unlike standard nightlife events, The Loft prioritizes the journey of the night over peak-hour spectacle. Headlining the 7 March return is Johannesburg’s Soulfreakah, bringing his signature, soulful groove to the Mother City alongside Cape Town’s finest selectors, Fizz & Shai-A and Danideevine who makes a welcomed return behind the booth after a few years hiatus. The bill is bolstered by a Loft regular in Chef KD, with co-founder Lonwabo “Man of Lemon” Mgoduso anchoring the room from start to finish. Known across the “Kaapstad streets” for its tight percussion and dancefloors that stay full until the lights come on, The Loft has carved out a reputation as one of the city’s most consistent and intentional house platforms.
The Sound of Freedom: South Africa’s Sonic Architecture. To fully appreciate the mission of The Loft, one must recognize house music’s profound legacy within the country. In South Africa, house is not merely an imported genre; it is a fundamental pillar of national identity. Since the post-apartheid era, the sound has evolved into a distinct sonic language – deeper, percussive, and unmistakably local. From early township parties to global stages, these repetitive, hypnotic beats served as a unifying force and a celebration of liberation. Today, as South African dance music splinters into massive commercial exports, the original, soulful essence of the underground requires active stewardship.
Protecting the Foundation. The Loft operates as a conservator of this foundational soundscape. It strips away viral gimmicks to prioritize the sound system, the slow build, and a dancefloor that knows exactly why it came.
“House was always bigger than the club,” explains Lonwabo Mgoduso. “In South Africa, it has long been tied to resistance and the celebration of freedom. It gave people space. It still does. When the sound gets big, you have to protect the foundation. You cannot rush it. You let it breathe. A proper set tells a story. A well curated event captures the community.”
Cultural Stewardship. The event is produced by Edition Events, a female-led agency shaping Cape Town’s creative economy. Known for bridging the gap between underground subcultures and high-level professional standards, Edition Events treats nightlife as cultural stewardship. Léa Debbah, founder of Edition Events, ensures that the physical production matches the cultural weight of the music.
On 7 March, that philosophy takes over The Hearty Collective once again. Proper sound. A room that moves. No distractions. Because when the gimmicks fall away, the music is what remains.
