The 5th annual EmpoweringHER Seminar & Business Awards, hosted by the Nomzamo Lighthouse Foundation in partnership with the Hollywood Foundation, has been hailed as the most inspiring edition yet. Taking place on Saturday, 15 November 2025, at the Inanda Club in Johannesburg, the sold-out event brought together over 300 powerhouse women from across South Africa under the bold and vibrant theme, “Women: The Boldest Strokes of Colour.”
This milestone year, dubbed “The Power of 50,” celebrated fifty phenomenal women who have made remarkable strides in leadership, innovation, and impact across industries, setting a new benchmark for excellence and empowerment.
A Day of Inspiration, Leadership, and Legacy
From the moment the doors opened, the energy at Inanda was electric. Guests were welcomed by the graceful Zozibini Tunzi, who served as the official host and MC. Tunzi’s warmth and commanding presence set the tone for a day filled with reflection, laughter, and powerful conversations.
“To be part of EmpoweringHER is to witness the strength, grace, and brilliance of women who are not waiting for permission to lead,” said Zozibini Tunzi. “What we experienced today was a reminder that the future truly is female and it is now.”
Founder Nomzamo Mbatha shared heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, sponsors, and honourees, noting how the event has grown into a cornerstone of women’s empowerment in South Africa.
“Five years ago, we dreamt of creating a safe, sacred space where women could celebrate one another — and today, we witnessed that dream in full colour,” said Nomzamo Mbatha. “The Power of 50 represents more than numbers; it represents legacy, sisterhood, and transformation.”
Dynamic Discussions and Unforgettable Moments
The day’s panel sessions, moderated by Nozipho Tshabalala, sparked deep introspection and conversation. Each dialogue was met with standing ovations and social media buzz that trended across platforms.
Dr. Vumi Msweli and Thebe Ikalafeng’s session, “Sponsor vs Mentor: Who’s Really Making Room for You?” resonated strongly with attendees, offering practical insights on building networks of influence.
“Empowerment is not just about access; it’s about advocacy,” said Dr. Msweli. “Today’s conversations proved that when women support women, industries shift.”
The “Boldest Boundary” panel featuring Ndia Magadagela and Ipeleng Mkhari explored the art of resilience and leadership through adversity, while the “Unmasking the Brand” panel with Sheldon Tatchel and Mathebe Ngwenya unpacked authenticity in business and the beauty of staying true to one’s purpose.
“What stood out today,” added Nozipho Tshabalala, “is that every woman in this room was both a student and a teacher, that’s the true spirit of EmpoweringHER.”
The Hollywood Foundation’s Legacy of Impact
Vuyi Ngobese, from the Hollywood Foundation, shared a powerful reflection on the journey and impact of the partnership:
“With today’s announcement, fifty businesses have been strengthened, countless jobs created, and immeasurable impact achieved. These women are not just award recipients; they are proof that intentional investment in women entrepreneurs transforms economies.
As Global Entrepreneurship Week launches, our winners will step into that global spotlight, not as aspirants, but as proven leaders. They embody the vision that has guided our partnership from the start: that women belong at the centre of South Africa’s growth story.
EmpoweringHER is no longer just an awards platform, it’s a movement. Together, we are turning recognition into opportunity, potential into progress, and purpose into measurable change.
Here’s to the women who dared, who built, who persevered, and who continue to empower others.
The Power of 50 is complete, but our journey, and our commitment, is only just beginning.”
Music, Movement, and Magic
The celebration continued with breathtaking performances from Amanda Black, Lerato Kganyago, and Muneyi, who brought the audience to their feet with soulful, empowering music that perfectly matched the event’s energy and message.
Guests described the experience as “life-changing,” “a masterclass in excellence,” and “a sisterhood that recharges your purpose.”
Looking Ahead: The Future of EmpoweringHER
The success of this year’s EmpoweringHER marks a new chapter for the Nomzamo Lighthouse Foundation. Plans are already underway for the 2026 edition, with a promise to expand the platform’s reach and investment in women-owned enterprises.
“EmpoweringHER 2025 was a statement,” said Nomzamo Mbatha in closing. “Next year, we’re not just returning, we’re reimagining what empowerment looks like for the next decade.”
