Durban, South Africa – 13 February 2026 – Multi-talented singer and stage performer Mbali Ngidi and DJ Tira have touched hearts this Valentine’s with a meaningful visit to Osindisweni Hospital in her hometown on Ndwendwe District.
The Emadweleni singer gifted healthcare workers in appreciation of their unwavering dedication, sacrifice, and service to the community.
In a heartfelt act of gratitude, Mbali personally thanks nurses, doctors, and support staff, presenting them with Valentine’s gifts as a symbol of love, recognition, and appreciation for the tireless work they do every day in often under challenging conditions.
This initiative is deeply personal for the singer. Mbali Ngidi is the daughter of a late nurse, Delisile Ngidi who worked at the hospital for 32 years and passed on in 2023. This is where Mbali was born and she credits her mother’s life and colleagues as the inspiration behind this gesture.
“I grew up watching my mother dedicate her life to caring for others. Nurses and healthcare workers are the backbone of our communities, and this visit is my way of saying thank you. Valentine’s Day is about love, and to me, love means service, compassion, and sacrifice,” says Mbali Ngidi.
The visit aims to shift the focus of Valentine’s Day beyond romance, highlighting gratitude, humanity, and community service as powerful expressions of love. She was joined by Afrotainment boss Mthokozisi “DJ Tira” Khathi, and artists ans fellow Durban musicians. Mbali’s gesture celebrates healthcare workers as everyday heroes who continue to show up for others selflessly.
“They say charity begins at home. As I watch my career blossom, I wish to also thank the people who raised me and my community. My mother was buried in 2023 on February 12 and we are doing this initiative of February 13, so it means a lot to me,” says Mbali Ngidi.
The included gift distribution, engagements with staff, and moments of reflection, with professional photo and video content captured and shared across digital platforms and media channels.
The MEC for Health in KwaZulu-Natal Ms Nomagugu Simelane welcomed the gesture, praising Mbali Ngidi for using her platform to honour frontline workers:
