Road to Bassline Fest Presents: History of House – A Groundbreaking Collaboration Featuring MÖRDA & Soweto Gospel Choir

Johannesburg, South Africa – The countdown has begun for one of the most electrifying musical experiences of the year. Road to Bassline Fest and SAMPRA proudly presents “History of House”, a genre-blending celebration featuring the Grammy-nominated producer MÖRDA and the internationally acclaimed Soweto Gospel Choir on the 18th of July at Johannesburg’s The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City. This once-in-a-lifetime collaboration promises a soulful and energetic fusion of Afro house, Amapiano, gospel, and timeless house classics, brought to life by two of South Africa’s most influential musical forces.

This show promises a unique blend of soulful gospel, cutting-edge house beats, and authentic South African music traditions—a true celebration of musical heritage and innovation.

“We can’t wait to showcase our take on these evergreen house classics, especially doing this on stage with MÖRDA for the first time,” says Shimmy Jiyane of Soweto Gospel Choir.

Experience a captivating musical odyssey that bridges genres and generations. The renowned Soweto Gospel Choir, a three-time Grammy-winning ensemble, will showcase their rich harmonies and soulful voices, led by the talented Shimmy Jiyane. Fresh from successful tours across Australasia, they will debut their South African performance of their History of House album, delivering stirring renditions of classics like “Silence” and “Ride Like the Wind,” creatively reimagined in South African languages on the History of House album produced by Groove Terminator and Latroit.

Joining them is the dynamic MÖRDA, formerly of Black Motion, whose innovative soundscapes and electrifying live performances continue to push boundaries. Fans can look forward to his hit tracks from the acclaimed Asante trilogy, including the powerful new single “Glory,” featuring Nomfundo Moh and Nontokozo Mkhize. With his distinctive dance moves and chart-topping hits, MÖRDA guarantees an energetic vibe that will keep the crowd moving all night long.

A fresh new artists set to open the show. “We are thrilled to announce that Brandon Aura will be opening the Morda in collaboration with Soweto Gospel Choir show, bringing his soulful folk-pop sound to the stage. Known for his captivating and emotionally resonant performances, Brandon previously delivered a phenomenal set at Fête de la Musique, leaving audiences inspired and moved. ”
