‘Haunted’ is a record that is undeniably born from rediscovery and a fresh start in my career. Having the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and create something magical was a fantastic feeling and to be part of a global collaboration together with myself being in Melbourne, Australia, Lohrasp Kansara from New York and Mavhungu from Johannesburg, South Africa. To add to that magic, the music video of Haunted was shot in the heart of Johannesburg, with beautiful cinematography from DirectorMac, it gives the song a whole new dimension and I’m so proud to see this come to life” says Marcus
The track, rich in Afro Pop influences, is uniquely sung in Tshivenda, one of South Africa’s eleven official languages, adding an authentic and deeply cultural layer to the music. Mavhungu, the gifted South African vocalist, songwriter, and musician, brings a profound sense of pride and heritage to the project, infusing it with the warmth and rhythm of Venda culture.
Mavhungu had this to say…
“Being myself in music is everything to me. I love to embrace my culture and I am incredibly proud of where I am from. My language is very spiritual to me and I love to connect with the world through my music”.
Marcus Santoro, one of Australia’s most celebrated DJ/Producers with over 100 million streams to his name, has performed alongside global superstars such as David Guetta and Martin Garrix. His collaboration with Lohrasp Kansara, an internationally acclaimed DJ/Producer based in New York who has performed over 6,000 shows across 45 countries, showcases the universal appeal of Afro Pop and South African music.
Mavhungu’s contribution to this collaboration is nothing short of remarkable. Her voice, carrying the essence of the Venda language, adds a cultural richness and a global energy to the track, making it a powerful anthem that resonates with audiences worldwide.
Coming from the back-hand of Heritage month celebrations, this collaboration serves as a reminder of the country’s rich and diverse cultural landscape. The track also celebrates South Africa’s heritage, a bridge between cultures, and showcases the country’s influence on the global music scene.
