Mabili is more than just a track — it’s a bold response to doubt, hate, and the quiet grind behind the scenes. Smiddy shares,
“With the hardships of navigating through the industry, people felt like I was not going anywhere — despite everything I’ve been doing behind closed doors. This song is me speaking directly to that. That’s why the hook starts with, ‘Bathi Uboyze Akanmunyakazo.’ I’m asking people to look closer: everything I do is out in the open. I don’t hide my progress.”
The track fuses modern hip hop with trap elements, riding over a hard-hitting beat and switching between English and vernac with ease — a true showcase of Smiddy’s lyrical skill and versatility.
Born into a musical household as the son of Maskandi and Umbaqhanga legend Ikhansela, Smiddy’s roots run deep in the South African music scene. His early exposure to legends like Mandoza and Brenda Fassie laid the foundation for his unique style. After breaking through with his single East PM, Smiddy began making rounds on TV and radio stations, steadily building momentum in the industry.
In 2021, Ralph discovered Smiddy’s music and saw potential in his sound and work ethic. What started as a management deal eventually grew into a label partnership. After taking time to understand the business, Smiddy returned to the scene in 2023 and has since collaborated with notable artists like Flash Ikumkani, with more features on the way in his upcoming EP.
With Mabili, Smiddy isn’t just releasing music — he’s making a statement. The record speaks to resilience, confidence, and defying doubt.
