Johannesburg, Friday, 27 February 2026 – Award-winning Soweto-born storyteller and Afro-contemporary artist Zu. marks 20 years as a songwriter and composer with the release of her 11-track album Ilitye on 27 February 2026.
Meaning “stone,” Ilitye is both a spiritual offering and a sonic memoir — a love letter from the adult Zu. to her inner child. The album explores healing, reclamation, radical self-acceptance, and the quiet power of remembering who you are beneath circumstance.
“Ilitye is a love letter from the adult me to my inner child. It’s me accepting that my feelings and circumstances may be real — but they do not define me. Everything I need, I am.”
The project is curated by Zu. herself, reinforcing her longstanding commitment to creative autonomy under her independent brand, Zu.
The title track, produced by Z.E.N, anchors the album’s emotional core — textured, intentional, and spiritually resonant. Zu. collaborated with three producers across the body of work, blending live instrumentation, contemporary African soundscapes, and lyrical vulnerability to create what she calls “medicine in music form.”
Two singles from the album — Never Gonna Let You Go and Nobuhle — have already introduced audiences to this new era, building anticipation for the full release.
Rooted in Afro-contemporary storytelling, Ilitye is not just an album — it is a ceremonial return to self.
To commemorate the release, Zu. embarks on a national tour with her full band. The official launch takes place on 6 March 2026 at Kings Kraal, followed by confirmed performances including 25 April 2026 at the Bloemfontein Civic Theatre. Additional tour dates will be announced and the album will be available on all major digital streaming platforms from 27 February 2026.
Twenty years in, Zu. is not revisiting the past — she is integrating it. Ilitye stands as a testament to artistic evolution, self-trust, and the power of returning home to oneself.
